GHMC cracking whip on Swachh violators

Hyderabad: GHMC has decided to impose severe penalties against violators of Swachh norms. This decision has been taken as its efforts to bring positive changes have not yielded expected results.

GHMC has been campaigning vigorously against use of plastic with thickness less than 50 microns, dumping of construction debris on public places and dumping of waste on roads. Therefore, GHMC has decided to take more stringent actions against offenders, apart from conducting awareness campaigns.

As part of this initiative, GHMC has imposed fines worth Rs 13.8 lakh against 226 people for violating cleanliness norms in the city. Fines were mainly imposed on those who dumped construction debris, for use of banned plastic and dumping of waste on roads and sewerage drains.

Deputy commissioners would act as chief enforcement officers and assistant medical officers as additional chief enforcement officers for imposing fines. At ward level, sanitation supervisors would act as enforcement officers.

On Thursday, Sitaramaiah of Kukatpally was imposed Rs 1 lakh fine for dumping construction debris on road, Similarly Babu Rao and Shankar Lingam of Alwyn Colony were fined Rs 50,000 each for dumping construction debris on road. Vijayanand Reddy of Madhapur was fined Rs 50,000 for the same reason.

A sweet shop at Ramnagar crossroads was fined Rs 50,000 for using plastic bags below 50 microns. MJ Wines of Shahpur Nagar was fined Rs 50,00 for littering plastic covers on road. Three plastic manufacturers located at Saibaba Nagar of Rajendranagar circle were shut down for manufacturing plastic below 50 microns.
