Hyderabad: There is good news for metro rail travelers. The Rotary Clubs would be providing free drinking water facility at 55 metro stations. There would be a minimum of three water kiosks and a maximum of 10 at major inter-change stations.

A survey on the footfalls at the stations was conducted by Rotary Clubs to decide the number of water kiosks to be set up. K Mohan Raidu, chairman, Twin Cities Rotary Clubs Presidents Forum said, "As per our survey, Ameerpet and Hi-Tec City metro stations have huge footfalls and we would be placing at least 10 water kiosks at these stations."

In all other stations, there would be two water kiosks at the unpaid area and one at the paid area. Rotary Clubs and Hyderabad Metro Rail came to a provisional agreement; the modalities are being worked out.

The cost and maintenance would be borne by Rotary Clubs. In certain stations such as Ameerpet which has a footfall of 30,000 per day, 7,000 litres of water would be needed and the demand could go up to 25,000 litres during summer projects a study conducted by Rotary.

Mohan Raidu says that Rotary has come up with the proposal which was accepted by Hyderabad Metro Rail as it would benefit metro travelers who are growing with each passing day.
