Cricket betting racket busted; 3 arrested

Hyderabad: North Zone Task Force sleuths on Thursday conducted simultaneous raids in the limits of Charminar and Moghalpura police station limits and busted cricket-betting rackets. They arrested three cricket bookies.

The accused were identified as Ashish Sharma (34), Sandeep Mishra (44) and P Jithender (33). The police seized net cash of Rs 69, 310, four mobile phones and four betting amount collection receipts of punters from the possession of the accused.

According to Task Force sleuths, the accused Ashish Sharma and Sandeep Mishra were organising cricket betting at a house in Gulzar House under Charminar police station limits and collecting betting amount from punters clandestinely and gain illegal easy money.

Another accused P Jithender was caught organising cricket betting at Wifi Bar and Restaurant at Laldarwaja X road under Moghalpura police station limits. On Thursday, during the match between India vs West Indies at England under ICC Cricket World Cup-2019, the accused collected huge betting amounts from agents, punters directly and indirectly while the match was going on. The arrested persons along with the seized material were handed over to the Charminar and Moghalpura police respectively for further action.
