City's first recycling park on the anvil

Lingampally: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to construct the city's first recycling park on one-and-a-half acre plot near Lingampally.

Speaking of the initiative, West Zonal Commissioner Hari Chandana said, "Recyclable products made from cloth, plastic, cardboard, and other items will be on display. It will raise awareness among citizens and sensitise on the importance of recycling and its benefits."

"Tonnes of recycling products will be used in the construction of the park. GHMC has planned to put up some unique sculptures, which would be made from recycling products.

The park would have several facilities, including pathway, sitting benches, dustbins and toilets, and these all items would be made from recycling products. Also, the entire park complex would have LED bulbs and also different saplings would be planted in the park", said P Chinna Reddy, the executive engineer at Serilingampally.

Even various awareness programmes will be in the offing, including talk shows, group discussions and small plays related to protecting the environment. The park will cost about Rs 1 crore and the budget can go up if required.

This open GHMC plot was in very bad condition and also dumped with garbage. "We have identified the plot and planned to develop into a recycling park by the end of September, the construction of the park would begin soon," added Chinna Reddy.
