Central aid sought for Ameenpur Lake
Ameenpur: In what might sound music to the ears of the eco-warriors and residents of Ameenpur, the news that the Ameenpur Lake received central funding would go a long way in the protection and conservation of the lake.
Special Protection Force DGP Tejdeep Kaur informed that the Central government allocated budget to the water body, which is declared as a biodiversity heritage site, both for its development and also for the stay of migratory birds during a trip to the lake on Thursday that included forty IPS, IAS, IES and ISS probationary officers undergoing training at MCR HRD Institute of Telangana.
The officers were taken around the Pedda Cheruvu lake to sensitise them on the living conditions and understand the flora and fauna at the site. Kaur interacted with the trainees on the bund of the water body to create awareness.
She informed the visitors that the Central government had allocated budget to the water body, which is declared as a biodiversity heritage site, both for its development and also for the stay of migratory birds. Kaur stated that a report was sent to the Centre on the Cheruvu, along with those on Chinna Cheruvu, Bandham Kommu Cheruvu, to spread it as a big biodiversity centre spread over 500 acres.
She also enlightened the officers about the living conditions of the migratory birds in the water bodies and on the works being taken up to develop the lakes. Among those present during the interaction were Sangareddy district Joint Collector Nikhila, local Tahsildar Swamy, CI Prabhakar, TSPF staff, and several police officers.
The Ameenpur Lake came into prominence in the last few years, especially, after it was declared as a biodiversity heritage site. Photographers in and around the city flock to the lake on weekends.
The number grows when migratory birds descend on the lake every year. TSPF also roped in college students in Patancheru and Ameenpur as lake commandos to take forward conservation of the lake.
