Kukatpally: National BJP general secretary Muralidhar Rao claimed that so far, eight lakh party members have been admitted in Telangana State.

Participating in at a party membership drive in Balajinagar and KPHB divisions on Thursday where he was the chief guest, Rao stated that party workers should work with the aim of enrolling 10 lakh more members, with party activists approaching every house.

Addressing the activists, Rao said BJP would fight the ruling TRS in Telangana State as the main opposition party in the next polls, which would be held in 2023. Referring to the latest developments in Jammu & Kashmir, he remarked that, thanks to the fight taken up by the late leader S P Mukherjee, the border State was fully merged with the country, following abrogation of the Article 370.

He described the death of former Union minister Sushma Swaraj as an irreparable loss to the country. "The nation has lost a good leader. She fought for the creation of Telangana State in Parliament. The credit for formation of Telangana goes to her. Sushmaji had become famous in Telangana as Chinnamma,"he added.

Former TRS KPHB division president Enugu Venkateshwar Reddy joined the BJP in the presence of Rao. Addressing the activists, Medchal BJP unit president Kantha Rao advised them to strive for strengthening the party, as there had been a good public response to the membership drive.
