A school with a difference at Yousufguda

Yousufguda: It is rare to see parents make a beeline to a government high school for admissions in these days of frantic search for quality educational institute for their wards. But, the one in Yousufguda is an exception. The 59-year-old school is giving private schools a run for their money, equipped as it is with state-of-the-art equipment and modern gadgets in a plush building.

While other government schools are struggling to get enough strength, the Government High School in Yousufguda has 1,000 plus students. Recently, the Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities constructed a part of the school.

A private firm, Synchrony, has adopted the school and another firm Agastya established the science lab. Santhoshamma, the headmistress, said, "It is one of the best government schools. It has all facilities from primary classrooms to science labs, playgrounds to NCC camping. We have bagged several awards like Best Swachh School, Best in Haritha Haram implementation, Best in Yoga teaching etc."

"We have strict rules and are particular about attendance, lab day, no-bag day and we celebrate every event and festival in school in a very grand way," said Narsimha, the in-charge. P Prabhakar, the NCC coordinator and an English teacher, said, "We always receive 100% selection in the NCC entrance. Around 100 students every year participate in the NCC activities."

"Teachers are very friendly and clear our doubts and I feel happy when teacher appreciates us for keeping good grades in exams. Science lab is more fun. I understand easily when lab teacher practically shows and explains the subject," said Karthik, a Class 10 student. Speaking of the good sports facilities, Ankitha, another 10th class student, said, "I love sports and want to become a national player."
