700 kids run for health

Dhulapally: About 700 kids participated in the Outdoor Kids Graduation Day held at Telangana Forest Academy, Dhulapally on Sunday. This novel program for children aged between 6 to 14 years was organised by Hyderabad Runners Society. This run was a culmination of eight weeks of training held across 13 locations across the city. About 26 mentors and 10 student volunteers were part of this programme.

ReaCH stands for Recreation and Child Health. Powered and supported by Hyderabad Runners, ReaCH is a social initiative that emphasises the need for change, to educate and sensitise adults and children about the importance of physical activity from an early age.

ChildRUN is a school based programme that promotes running and finding effective ways to get children and young adults stay active. Outdoor Kids is an out-of-school programme that helps kids from diverse communities stay physically active and practice healthy habits.

Outdoor Kids is an out-of-school introduces running as a form of physical activity in a structured fashion among children. It is a volunteer driven initiative that aims to improve learning and health through community involvement, family engagement, and creating a conducive environment for children to stay physically active.

Outdoor Kids (OK) concluded the Summer Programme in thirteen locations around Hyderabad. Some of the locations include KBR National Park, Botanical Gardens, housing communities such as Aparna Grande, Myhome Vihanga, Myhome Jewel, Malaysian Township to name a few. This Year we also added children from the Govt Primary School from Film Nagar Basti.

The programme is mentored by passionate volunteers from Hyderabad Runners and the group meets three times a week for a one-hour session. We have had 700+ registered children across all ages and the 8-week programme culminated with a final run on June at Telangana State Forest Academy Dulapally Hyderabad. The event was supported by the Telangana Forest Department.
