Toxic Lake of Bellandur spews froth again
BENGALURU: Bengaluru's biggest largest septic tank of the city, started to spew the toxic froth again on Saturday night after few spells of rain. The toxic froth is produced as a result of untreated sewage water flowing into the lakes.
Things would only get worse with the intensifying rainfall during the monsoon.
Last year, the lake was on fire and burned for more than 30 hours and rained down ash on balconies and cars more than six miles away. Less than two weeks later, the lake caught fire again. Bellandur Lake made international headlines last February when videos of the fire went viral. But there have been major fires going back to 2015.
But what's in the water is the same thing fueling the fires and the froth. It's a potent mix of domestic and industrial waste.
Froth emerged again from Bellandur Kodi area and aggravated the problem once again. The lake has become the largest septic tank after being inspected and promised solutions to its pollution woes, froth continues to haunt commuters and residents around.
Recently, Chemicals and pollutants had the lakes frothing for decades but made international headlines when the lakes started breathing fire and smoke too in recent years.
