It's high time to kick the butt
'No Tobacco Day' is observed on 31st May every year for creating awareness of its harmful effect on human health.
This year, the focus of World No Tobacco Day was on 'tobacco and lung health.' The campaign will increase awareness on the negative impact that tobacco has on people's lung health, from cancer to chronic respiratory disease, the fundamental role lungs play for the health and well-being of all people.
According to the WHO report, 12 percent of Indian population of the total population of the world is addicted to smoking.
Cancer is the second main cause of death in the world and excessive smoking is one of the reasons for cancer.
Addiction of tobacco invites not only deadly diseases but also poverty because people spend their money on it and after having serious disease, they have to undergo costly treatment and thus the poor become poorer.
In some States, gutka, khaini and other types of tobacco products have already been banned but these deadly items are being secretly sold. 'Smoking is injurious to health' warning is written on every packet of cigarette. Still smokers do not give it up.
Therefore, mass awareness campaign should be taken up by the governments, NGOs, schools and colleges so that future generation should stay away from tobacco and can live healthy and happy life.
