World Milk Day 2020: Raise a Glass
The first World Milk Day was celebrated by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations 20 years ago. This year the World Milk Day theme in our country is all about "Raise a Glass". The idea of celebrating Milk Day is to make people aware of the milk health benefits and shed light on the positive effects of milk on the human body.
World Milk Day: History and Significance
World Milk Day was first celebrated on June 1, 2001, by the United Nations department for food and agriculture. Initially, the United Nations aim was to make people understand the benefits of milk and to make them consume it more. Since 2001 World Milk Day is observed worldwide to acknowledge the benefits provided by the beverage. Milk Day helps in raising awareness and imparting a healthy habit in people who have a busy lifestyle.
In India, the World Milk Day is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm. Milk has been the main part of our diet from our childhood days, and over the years, we have unknowingly reaped its benefits.
In India World Milk Day 2020 theme, "Raise a Glass" aims at spreading light on the importance of milk above other drinks. Milk is a beverage that may not affect our health immediately, but eventually, we can see the difference. World Milk Day is celebrated nationally and internationally and let people know about the various benefits of the milk.
On this day, different communities and organisations talk about how one should integrate milk in their diets, due to its highly nutritious value. In a few parts of the world, free milk packets are given to young children on World Milk Day. Some countries organise events that people can participate in and know the long term benefits of milk. Last year World Milk Day theme in India was, "Drink Milk: Today and Every day". This was done to make sure that Indians integrates milk to their daily diet and lead themselves towards a healthier lifestyle.
