Awareness can only curb spread of asthma

Narayanguda: Telangana state Director of Medical Education Dr Ramesh Reddy said on Tuesday that spreading awareness on asthma was the only way to curb the spread of the disease.

He was speaking at an awareness programme organized by Swasa Foundation on the occasion of World Asthma Day 2019. Several noted doctors participated in the programme.

Speaking of the awareness programmes, Dr Ramesh Reddy said that about 33 crore people were suffering from asthma and most of them were children. Several people were undergoing physical and mental issues due to lack of awareness about the disease and access to modern medical treatment, he said.

Dr Vishnu Rao, chairman of Swasa Foundation, said that they had been spreading awareness on the disease for the past 20 years. Proper lifestyle, good diet and physical regimen could enable patients of asthma to lead norms lives.

Rao said that pollution, changing lifestyles, environmental changes were the leading causes of the disease. He warned people not to use 'Sambrani' smoke for babies as it can cause the disease in children.
