TN lads continue to dominate surf

Mangaluru: As expected by the Surfing gurus the finals of the 5th Indian Open of Surfing is going to witness a fiercely fought final day on Sunday. The Tamil Nadu surfers dominated the the surfers from Tamil Nadu have shown exceptional performance, securing all top four final spots in the men’s open category and two spots in the women’s open category. This is indeed a remarkable achievement in the history of the Indian Open of Surfing tournaments.

Sivaraj Babu, with the highest score of the day (15.17), initiated the dominance of Tamil Nadu. Other surfers who joined him in the semifinals include Sanjaikumar S, Sanjay Selvamani, Ajeesh Ali, Srikanth D, Manivanna T, Harish M, and Ruban V.

In the Surfing Groms 16 and Under Boys quarterfinals, Harish P, currently ranked fifth in India, received the highest score in the category. The Pujar brothers are keeping Karnataka’s hopes alive in the fierce competition between East and West coast surfers.

In the Women’s Open surf category semifinals, Kamali Moorthi, the defending champion, demonstrated her improved manoeuvrability and surfing skills by scoring 11.23 points. Goa surfer Sugar Banarase also put up a good fight, scoring 8.93 points. Neha Vaid and Marielle Wunderink are the other two surfers who made it to the finals.

The Men’s Open category semifinal saw fierce competition among the country’s top surfers. Sanjai Kumar S, Sanjay Selvamani, Srikanth D, and Ajeesh Ali earned their places in the final. However, the surprising elimination of Sivaraj Babu, the top scorer from the previous day, was a notable event.

The final day of the tournament promises to be exciting and fiercely competitive.
