Covid-19 positive cases, fatalities show drastic fall in Mysuru
Mysuru: There has been a drastic decrease both in Covid-19 positive cases and fatalities in the district compared to October. Positive cases have seen 77.25 percent decrease and fatalities by 81.45 percent in the district. Even the recovery rate has improved a lot in November compared to October.
November recorded 2,996 coronavirus cases and 41 deaths in the district. As on 30 November, the Covid death rate was 1.97 percent.
In October there were 13,166 Covid-19 cases and 221 deaths. As on 31 October, the death rate was 2 percent and the recovery rate was 94.56 percent.
Mysuru District Health Officer Dr Amarnath told the Hans India that over 100 ICU beds including those equipped with ventilators and oxygen, and 1200 beds reserved for Covid patients are vacant in the district. In a positive development, two Covid care centres in Mysuru city and all those at 7 taluk head quarters have been closed. Effectively, there is only one Covid care centre at Mandakalli in the district, Dr Amarnath said.
On the decrease in the number of cases, the DHO said, "We are testing 3,000 to 4,000 people per day. And with that early detection, isolation and timely treatment has been possible, and this is helping us to prevent the spread of infection and subsequently the cases have come down. Since the number of cases have come down, we have been able to concentrate more on treating patients and saving their lives. The drastic decrease in cases might be because, either the people have become immune to the virus or virulence/strength of virus might have weakened. But there is no evidence to prove it. We are preparing to give vaccination to health care workers in the first phase. Though there are no directions, we are ready with list of senior citizens and vulnerable population including the HIV patients and those with comorbid conditions, for vaccination in the second phase," he said. Meanwhile, 43 Covid positive cases were reported in the district on Tuesday. So far a total number of 50,680 cases have been reported in the district, 999 have died and 49326 have recovered.
While 355 cases are active 48 patients are isolated in government dedicated Covid hospital and 96 are isolated in private hospitals in Mysuru.
