Vellore: VIT has added yet another feather to its cap by securing First rank among private institutions in the country in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA 2019) awarded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
VIT Chancellor Dr. G. Viswanathan received the award from President of India Mr. Ram Nath Kovind during the award ceremony and release of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) on Monday at New Delhi. ARIIA award was given to ten Government institutions and five private institutions.
In the NIRF ranking, in Engineering Institutions category VIT secured 18th rank including all the IITs, NITs and leading universities. In the University ranking category, VIT bagged 19th rank among all Universities in India.
In order to promote innovations in Higher Education Institutions (HEI), MHRD, GoI came out with Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovative Achievements (ARIIA). The process of getting data from institutions, considering them and finalizing the institutions took several months and finally the ranks were declared by our Honourable President Mr. Ram Nath Kovind. The rank was declared in two categories, one is Government funded institutions and other is private funded institutions. The President also released the ranking of Universities and colleges in the country under NIRF.
This is the fourth edition of NIRF and VIT continues to be the first among the private players in engineering education for the fourth consecutive year. However, unlike ARIIA no separate ranking for private and public institutions is available in NIRF.
Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) is an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India to systematically rank all major higher educational institutions and universities in India on indicators related to "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development" amongst students and faculties.
The criteria for ARIIA Ranking are: Budget & funding support, infrastructure & facilities, awareness, promotions & support for idea generation & innovation, promotion & support for entrepreneurship development, innovative learning methods & courses, intellectual property generation, technology transfer & commercialisation and innovation in governance of the institution. ARIIA focusses on quality of innovations and tries to measure the real impact created by these innovations nationally and internationally.
