Visakhapatnam: Scientists can create new business to economy

Visakhapatnam: The development of science and technology research is an important factor increasing the growth rate of economy particularly Indian scientist can create new business to support economy, said by Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya Vice-Chancellor Prof GD Sharma here on Friday at GITAM Deemed to be University. He participated as Chef Guest to inaugurate five days DST-INSPIRE Internship Science Camp at GITAM Institute organised by Biotechnology Department.

While addressing the students he said that support of science and technology is one of the best ways we can generate economic growth but in India spending on higher education is very less and that is leading to low enrolment in science programs in universities and colleges. He observed that the country is slowly changing its objects towards science particularly to bring all inventions and innovations on business platform. He advised the students to utilise the programs like INSPIRE to help the society as well as economy through Make in India program.

GITAM President M Sribharath said that science and science research is a major vehicle for enhancing the quality of human life. He pointed that there is a wide scope for science inventions particularly way of giving solutions for present day problems like global warming, new diseases, plastic waste treatment. Under such scenario it has become more important to create a strong science base in our country, particularly among school children, he added.

GITAM Vice-Chancellor Prof K Sivaramakrishna said that GITAM is initiating to start a innovation centre to encourage the students to think about innovations through science and technology. He informed that the university will encourage start-ups, entrepreneurs with proper guidance and motivation.

Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awardee Dr.Sandip Basu (Radiation Medicine Centre, Mumbai) inspired the students with his lecture on cancer treatment through radiopharmaceuticals. GITAM Institute of Science Principal Prof.M.Sarathchandra Babu informed that Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research" (INSPIRE) is an innovative programme initiated by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, to attract talents to the excitement and study of science at an early age
