JEE Main 2020: Exam Pattern Changed for Paper I and Paper II

NTA (National Testing Agency) has announced a few changes in the exam pattern of the upcoming Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) for Engineering, Pharma, and Architecture.

NTA conducts the JEE Main 2020 exam twice in a year - January and April. The first round of the JEE Main 2020 exam will be held from January 6-11, 2020. It includes Paper-I (for BE/BTech admissions courses) and Paper-II (for BArch/BPlanning admissions). The second round of the JEE Main 2020 for Paper-I and Paper-II will be held from April 3-9, 2020.

JEE Main 2020 Exam: Changes introduced by NTA

**    Number of total questions are reduced: The total number of questions is reduced from 264 to 233

**   Numerical questions introduced: The NTA JEE Main 2020 exam paper will now include numerical problems as well

**    Computer-Based-Test: The JEE Main Paper-I (for BE/BTech) and Paper-II (for BArch/BPlanning) will be held exclusively in CBT mode, only the drawing test for BArch will take place in 'pen & paper' (offline) mode.

**   Distinct papers for BArch and BPlanning: The JEE Main 2020 Paper-I (BE/BTech) will include multiple-choice questions and numerical questions while JEE Main Paper-II is now separate for BArch and BPlanning candidates.

1. Changes made in JEE Main 2020 Paper I (BE/BTech)

The JEE Main 2020 Paper I will comprise of three sections - Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with 25 questions in each subject, including 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and five numerical problems. For the numerical value questions, there will be no negative marking. Whereas for each wrong answer in the MCQs -1 will be deducted. The students will be given 3 hours to complete the JEE Main Paper I. The total marks is 300.

2. Changes in JEE Main 2020 Paper-II (BArch/BPlanning)

JEE Main 2020 Paper-II - BArch

The JEE Main 2020 Paper-II (BArch) is divided into three sections – Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing. Maths section will have 20 MCQs and 5 questions with a numerical value; Aptitude section will include 50 MCQs; the Drawing section has 2 drawing-related questions of 50 marks each. The questions paper, on the whole, will have 77 questions, and the total marks of the paper will be 400. To complete the paper, candidates will get 3 hours.

For numerical value question, there will be no negative marking, whereas, for MCQs, for one wrong answer -1 will be deducted and 0 if the problem is attempted.

JEE Main 2020 Paper-II - BPlanning

The JEE Main 2020 Paper-II (BPlanning) will also have three parts – Mathematics, Aptitude and Planning based Objective type MCQ's. Maths section will consist of 20 MCQs and 5 questions with a numerical value. Aptitude section will have 50 aptitude-based MCQs, in the third section, there will be 25 planning-based objective types MCQs. The total marks for this paper are 400. There will be 100 questions and candidates will be given 3 hours.

For the numerical value question, there will be no negative marking. For MCQs, for one wrong answer, -1 will be deducted.
