Reigning star Chiranjeevi made a big announcement on Saturday. Marking the birth anniversary of legendary director Dasari Narayana Rao on May 4, Telugu Film Directors Association resolved to conduct events every year on this day.
They also named May 4 as "Directors' Day". Apparently, all the association members gathered and invited Chiranjeevi as the chief guest for the event in Hyderabad.
Speaking on the occasion, megastar announced that he would donate Rs 25 lakh and asked the organizers to collect the cheque during the next one week. Prior to it, Chiranjeevi remembered his long association with Dasari and how he had the opportunity to visit him during last days of the legendary filmmaker.
Chiranjeevi said that the fund would be useful for director Raghavendra Rao's plan to set up a trust to help underprivileged directors, including veterans, associates and assistant directors, who were looking out for some help.
Rao also said that the trust would aim to gather a fund of Rs 5-10 crore and it would help pay a monthly pension of Rs 5,000 to the filmmakers who are really in need. On that note, he urged all the directors and their fans to contribute their mite for the trust.
