A cocktail of comedy and crime
A gang of five, ranging from a small girl to a grandmother, who are united in a single cause of wreaking revenge on a criminal who has killed a family member of theirs associate a pseudo- crime writer to help them accomplish their mission.
Of course, our hero (Nani) true to his reputation is a failed author who has nothing better than to translate English crime thrillers into Telugu.
The challenge is formidable and the opponent invisible. How this bumbling, vulnerable set of normal folks manage to browbeat and vanquish the villain forms the core of the film.
The genre of a family, socio-crime thriller, where action and emotion are whipped up as a fizzy cocktail has often worked in Indian cinema.
Here too the human element is very much evident. The setting for the unravelling of the mystery behind the bank heist which is where the family had seen their men being killed is also convincing enough.
The narrative is too well-paced in the first half, till the time the suspense of the killer is revealed as a timely intermission break.
What should have been an edge-of-the-seat nail biter is let down by a see-saw approach of melodrama and a very unconvincing background to the occurrence of the crime which forms the action part.
The action hero Kartikeya, who has had a rough time with his recent films is seen in a prominent role in this film, which he seems to have fitted himself into, rather snugly.
The ladies' brigade led by veteran actress Lakshmi make a good impact, with Saranya, Priyanka, Shriya and Praanya bring up a spirited performance which keeps the audience engrossed.
Continuing on from the middle-aged role that his last hit film ' Jersey' featured him as, Nani maintains a natural attitude and keeps his super heroism to the bare minimum till the climax demands him to do so.
The blend of breeziness with action blocks are interesting here and there but tends to drag in the final hour of the film, which is what undoes the feel good it seeks to establish.
Anirudh Ravichander, the Chennai music director makes a mandatory appearance during the end titles to establish the film's brand and his songs are just above average otherwise.
