Pankaj Udhas sang for this Kannada music director

Kannada music director Hamsalekha

Govindaraju Gangaraju, born on June 23, 1951, and popularly known by the name Hamsalekha is a legendary music director in Kannada film industry. He has composed music for over 500 films which include a few in other languages like Tamil. In the late 1980s, he was the composer for a few Bharathiraja films which included 'Kodi Parakkudhu' of Rajinikanth and a few more. This was when the leading director had a bitter spat with pal and co-traveller Ilaiyarajaa and split from him.

As far as playback singing voices go, his songs were rendered by over twenty titans – beginning with veteran P B Sreenivas, Dr Rajkumar at one end and the female legends like P Suseela, Vani Jayaram, Swarnalatha at the other. The non- southern voices too were many beginning from Sonu Nigam to Pankaj Udhas. The song that Udhas sang was a duet with Kavita Krishnamurthi in a film called ' Sparsha', starring Kichcha Sudeep, released in 2000 and a major hit.

Hamsalekha is credited with introducing a variety of music streams into Kannada cinema, from Western to hip hop while retaining the original essence of the local language. He is popularly referred to as 'Naadha Brahma'.
