Actress Sanjjanaa gets bail in Sandalwood drugs case
Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Friday granted bail to Sandalwood actress Sanjjanaa Galrani, who was arrested in connection with the sensational drug scandal. She was earlier denied bail by the High Court. She moved a fresh petition seeking bail on medical grounds.
Justice Sreenivas Harish Kumar granted her bail on condition of her executing a personal bond of Rs 3 lakh and two sureties for the same amount. The actress was also directed to appear before police every fortnightly and cooperate with investigation. According to reports, the bail order was instantly communicated to the jail authorities and the actress was expected to be released by Friday evening or by Saturday morning.
Ever since Sanjjanaa and another Sandalwood actress Ragini Dwivedi were taken into custody by Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) in the first week of September, they filed pleas for bail on multiple occasions, but they were turned down.
The court had earlier in November ordered a thorough medical check up on Sanjjaanna at Vanivilas Hospital in Bengaluru after she applied for bail for the second time since her arrest. Her earlier bail application was rejected by the High Court on November 3.
Sanjjanaa Galrani was arrested along with Ragini Dwivedi and scores of others for allegedly procuring and consuming drugs at high profile parties.
They have been charged under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985. According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly used to arrange parties in five star hotels, pubs, dance bars, farmhouses and casinos and supply drugs to invitees.
They allegedly procured drugs from Goa, Mumbai, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh and even from foreign countries and induced guests to take part in the rave parties by engaging film stars. During the parties, the accused allegedly served ecstasy tablets, ganja, cocaine, MDMA tablets and LSD to invitees.
