Kollywood Movies Danny, Cocktail, Lockup To Premiere On Zee5

At a time when there's uncertainty abound owing to the mounting COVID19 cases in the country, opening of theatres may take a while. So, most filmmakers have decided to go the OTT way. Video streaming platforms have come as a saviour for all the film producers who are worried about incurring huge losses after investing a fortune on movies.

We all know that the trend was started by Kollywood actor Suriya Sivakumar who decided to give theatrical release and skip and go for direct OTT release with his movie Ponmagal Vanthal starring his wife Jyothika. He did earn the wrath of Tamil Nadu theatre association and distributors, but in the end he could convince them that this was the best choice under the circumstances. Amazon Prime Video recently streamed Ponmagal Vanthal and Penguin (Keerthy Suresh).

Looks like other filmmakers too are walking in Suriya's footsteps. While Disney Hotstar ++ has bagged the rights of five big Bollywood releases including those starring stars like Akshay Kumar and Alia Bhatt, Zee5 has bought the digital rights of three Tamil movies. The Kollywood movies that will directly premiere on the OTT platform Zee5 include Venkat Prabhu's Lockup, Yogi Babu's Cocktail and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar's Danny. While Dabbt will premiere on August 1, Cocktail will hit the digital platform on July 10.

Zee5 is also said to have grabbed the streaming rights of the Kollywood movie Nishabdham.
