End of the Beetle Road. Volkswagen Ends after 81 years of production of the Iconic car
We may have said goodbye to our favorite beetle bug, but for generations to come it will always remain in our hearts.
It's official folks, our classic VW beetle buggy came to extinction on Wednesday in Puebla, Mexico with its last car rolling out of the assembly line. Beetle had a big farewell bash on Wednesday as it was the last of VW's production of 1.7 million "New Beetles" in Mexico.
The send-off ended a lineage of making our beloved Beetle bug for seven decades. This classic pop culture icon, born in Nazi Germany and groomed and embraced in America, had a glorious life. Well-wishers and the Beetle family gathered together with the workers to bid farewell at VW's factory in Puebla.
A five-piece mariachi band with a confetti side graced the bash with a tribute. The era had ended for a car that, with its special design and quality, had conquered people's hearts. Steffen Reiche; VW Mexico CEO While VW Beetle's production has been seized, Volkswagen's Puebla employees will continue to produce Jetta and Golf as well as focus on U.S. electric and larger family vehicles.
Scott Keogh, president, and CEO of the Volkswagen Group of America commented, "While her time has come, the role she has played in our brand's evolution will be cherished forever. Without the Beetle, you can't imagine where Volkswagen would be. The internet fam of the Beetle also had a virtual goodbye for their beloved car. #byebyeBeetle was a Twitter trend.
