Bigbasket sees Vijayawada as key market

Hyderabad: Bigbasket, an online supermarket on Monday said it has developed a registered customer base of over 1.7 lakh in Vijayawada, since its launch in 2015. Moreover, it reported a 320 per cent growth in revenue in two years.

The company said, Vijayawada is the new commercial capital of Andhra Pradesh. The location of bigbasket is near farmer hubs which eases the procurement and supply of fruits and vegetables directly from farmers.

bigbasket said it offers over 250 products in the fruits and vegetables category, along with 30,000 products across all other categories, in Vijayawada. "Vijayawada being the commercial capital of AP, has been a high-growth market for us.

The city is one of South India's major industrial centres and the adoption of online grocery shopping has happened relatively easily," the National Head of Tier 2 cities, bigbasket, Pallavi Palkar said.

bigbasket further said it opened its RPC (Repacking centre) in this city in March 2017, the centre being their first in India. Here bigbasket's own brand of staples are processed and packed.

The monthly production of staples at this centre has reached 600 tons in two years, which is catered to all bigbasket units in South India, it added.
