Ravichandran to play warrior in period drama 'Kannadiga'
Bengaluru: Director BM Giriraj of 'Jatta' and 'Mythri' fame is now busy with his period drama titled 'Kannadiga', starring Crazy Star Ravichandran. The sources close to the director claim that they have shot for a sequence that showcases Ravichandran as a warrior.
As the film is set to be historical, Ravichandran will be seen mainly in the role of a scholar whose family preserves Kannada and its literary heritage through generations. It is learnt that he will also be portrayed as a warrior, and this is an important part of the narrative.
It is said that Ravichandran plays Samanthabhadra, who was a chief in Queen Chennabhairadevi's army. This is the first time Ravichandran plays the role of a historical character.
"This character is an ancestor of Gunabhadra who comes from the family of scribes" sources said.
'Kannadiga' explores the character of Reverend Ferdinand Kitel, who compiled the first Kannada-English dictionary. Bollywood actor Tom Alter's son Jamie Alter is making his Sandalwood debut with the role of Kitel in the film. According to the sources, the team has shot for portions that feature Ravichandran and Bhavani Prakash, who plays the queen.
The film also features Pavana, who is paired opposite Ravichandran, along with Jayashree, Balaji Manohar among others in prominent roles. Ravi Basrur scores the music, while the cinematography is handled by GSV Seetharam.
