• It will continue to rival the Maruti Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid and the Hyundai Verna.
The fifth-gen City has been spied a couple of times now and finally, it is all set to make its global debut in Thailand on November 25. We expect Honda to launch the next-gen City in India in the second half of 2020.
The fifth-gen City is expected to resemble the latest versions of the Civic and the Accord. Expect it to be bigger and come with features like LED headlamps and tail lamps, digital instrument cluster, a larger touchscreen system, a sunroof, connected car tech, and more.
Under the hood, it is expected to be powered by the current-gen City's 1.5-litre petrol engine which has been upgraded to meet BS6 norms. Honda might offer an updated version of this unit with direct fuel injection for better performance and efficiency. What's more, it may also be offered with a new 6-speed manual along with the existing CVT gearbox.
While the Thai-spec City is expected to debut a new petrol-hybrid variant, it is highly unlikely to make its way to India, at least at launch. Instead, the next-gen City will be offered with a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine. The diesel City is likely to get a CVT option just like the Amaze this time around.
Honda is likely to showcase the fifth-gen City in India in the second half of 2020 followed by a launch soon after. This is because Honda is expected to give the Auto Expo 2020 a miss. The next-gen City is expected to be priced from around Rs 10 lakh. When launched, it will renew its rivalry with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, and Hyundai Verna.
