Women told to take part actively in sports: P Pushpa Srivani
Srikakulam: Deputy Chief Minister P Pushpa Srivani on Saturday exhorted the women to participate actively in sports and games. Participating in the valedictory of South Zone Women Kho-Kho Championship competitions here, she suggested all students to take both win and defeat in same spirit to come up in life.
Lauding Andhra University team for achieving first place, she said that the State government was committed to promote women in sports and games by presenting more awards. Reservations is also being provided in various government services for sports and games through a separate quota, she assured.
On the occasion, the Deputy CM presented medals to team members of both winners and runners. MP Bellana Chandra Sekhar and Etcherla MLA G Kiran Kumar also spoke at the valedictory function.
Fifty-seven universities from south India participated in the competitions. Andhra University, Visakhapatnam team achieved first place, second position was achieved by Calicut University team, Acharya Nagarjuna University team stood in third place and Mysore University team achieved fourth place.
