Waltair Division sets a new record in freight loading
Visakhapatnam: Waltair Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) achieved a historic milestone by handling an unprecedented 50 million tonnes (MT) of freight loading in just 230 days. The record registered as of November 16th marks the best-ever performance in the division’s history and reflects a 12.5 per cent increase compared to the previous year.
Also, Waltair Division is elevated to the fifth top-performing division across Indian Railways, improving its position from the 6th place secured last year. The previous record for reaching 50 million tonnes was set in 256 days during the 2023–24 period.
Adding to its list of milestones, the division registered an all-time high of 7.10 MT of freight loading in October this year, surpassing all earlier monthly records. The consistent efforts to enhance traffic facilities, ensure rake availability and provide timely rake allocations to customers have driven loading growth across key loading points such as Vizag Port, Gangavaram Port, Steel Plant, HPCL, Utkal Alumina, NMDC etc.
Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra appreciated the traffic department for the achievement and commended all associated departments for their dedicated teamwork and relentless efforts in attaining the milestone, securing the fifth position among Indian Railways divisions.
