‘Volunteerism is important to keep city clean’: US Consul General

Visakhapatnam: US Consul General in Hyderabad Jennifer Larson emphasised the importance of volunteerism to maintain the city clean and beautiful.

She was speaking at a beach clean-up programme organised as part of the ‘Community Day’ observance by the American Corner at Andhra University at Rushikonda Beach on Saturday morning.

The US Consul General participated in a beach clean-up activity, collected litter along with students and volunteers. She appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the volunteers, students, and local citizens, underlining the collaborative efforts that help yield positive results for environmental initiatives.

Taking part in the cleanup drive, Andhra University Vice-Chancellor GP Rajasekhar noted that programmes like these contribute significantly to maintaining cleanliness at beaches. He praised the volunteers for their participation.

Sharing his views, Registrar of Andhra University EN Dhanunjaya Rao called for making the beach plastic-free. He urged the implementation of special measures to reduce plastic usage and commended the volunteers for their efforts in maintaining the beach in an eco-friendly manner.

Certificates of appreciation were presented to all the volunteers who took part in the Community Day initiative.

Andhra University director of physical education N Vijay Mohan, NCC coordinator Prof NM Yugandhar, Public Diplomacy Officer Emilia Smith from the US Consulate General Hyderabad, American Spaces coordinator Melissa Nandula, and AU American Corner Coordinator Paul Douglas and others participated in the event.
