Vizianagaram records 74.5% polling
Vizianagaram: The Vizianagaram district around recorded 75 per cent of polling till 5 pm in the Assembly elections held on Thursday. Except malfunctioning of some EVMs in some areas, the polling was peaceful except a minor incident of violence at China Kudama village of Jiyammavalasa mandal in Kurupam constituency, where some TDP workers allegedly tried to barge into polling booth but the YSRCP candidate and sitting MLA P Pushpa Srivani rushed to the spot and foiled their attempts.
However, the TDP workers have surrounded her and stopped her from entering polling station. Immediately the police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Meanwhile D Ramakrishna of TDP belongs to China Kudama village has assaulted the MLA candidate Srivani and even detained her.
But the locals have surrounded her and shifted her to hospital under the tight security. Meanwhile former Union minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, MP candidate of TDP, has cast his vote at Vizianagaram and Minister Sujay cast his vote at Bobbili.
