Vizag Railway Station bags National Tourism Award

Visakhapatnam: It was a proud moment for Waltair Division as Visakhapatnam Railway Station bagged National Tourism Award for the best tourist-friendly railway station.

Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Prahlad Singh Patel presented the award to Divisional Commercial Manager Ashok Rao marking the World Tourism Day in New Delhi on Friday.

The award was given in recognition of the availability of tourist-friendly infrastructure such as seating facilities, air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned waiting halls, toilets, eating outlets, food courts, chemist stalls, accessibility of tourist facilitation counters and accessibility of pre-paid auto/ taxi service, retiring rooms along with condition and upkeep of the same were some of the amenities maintained at Visakhapatnam railway station.

This apart, eco-friendly measures such as number of bio-toilets, solid waste management and installation of energy saving system were other amenities at the station that earned recognition. Along with facilitating 100 per cent of DiGi pay-enabled station for cashless transactions, several measures were taken by the Railway Department.
