Visakhapatnam: At a time when Visakhapatnam is gearing up to become an executive capital, cops are paying special focus on maintaining law and order and keeping a tab on anti-social activities.

Right from busting the gang involved in pick-pocketing to chain snatching to transporting cannabis, the police are taking concrete measures in identifying and nabbing the offenders that too in a short span of time.

With an apparent trend of drug culture being witnessed in Visakhapatnam, the police department is taking a big leap in nipping the ganja menace in the bud.

The recent registration of five cases by the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act from November 26 to December 4 is an indication of the department's preparedness.

About 11 persons were taken into custody under the limits of various police stations across the city and a quantity of 59.765 kg of contraband was seized from them.

The registered cases were within the jurisdiction of Kancharapalem, MVP Colony, airport and New Port police stations.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police SEB Ajitha Vejendla mentioned that stringent action will be taken against the offenders involved in the illegal transportation of ganja, Lysergic acid Diethylamide (LSD) and opium in any form or selling or storing the banned material.
