Vijayawada : (NTR District) Demanding withdrawal of the GO converting 25 government junior colleges into Mahila Junior Colleges and run those colleges as co-education colleges, the members of Students Federation of India (SFI) submitted a memorandum to Commissioner of State Intermediate Board Seshubabu here on Tuesday.

SFI State president K Prasanna Kumar, secretary Ashok, assistant secretary Ch Venkateswara Rao, NTR district SFI president M Someswara Rao and central city leader Lakshma Reddy and others met the Commissioner.

Earlier addressing the students, NTR district SFI president M Someswara Rao and secretary Ch Venkarteswara Rao expressed serious objection to the orders issued by the State government converting all the 25 government junior colleges into women's junior colleges. They said that the SRR and CVR Government Junior College was also converted into women's junior college, which is not acceptable. They said that more than 2,000 students belonging to SC, ST, BC, Minority communities from poor and middleclass families are pursuing education in the college.

They recalled that the college was established in 1937 and since then several lakhs of students studied in this college and holding high positions across the country. With the change of the college into women's college, poor students would be deprived of education. Students from various villages situated nearly 40 kms from the city are regularly coming to the college every day.

A quick glance at the college admissions for the last three years proved that more number of boys are getting admission into the college. With the conversion of the college, these boys have no option to study. In the larger interest of the students the government should immediately withdraw the order and continue the college as co-ed college, they demanded.

The government should start another girls junior college in the city for the girls, they also demanded.

SFI leaders Manmadha, Sushma, Shiny, Abhishek and others were present.
