Vijayawada: Plea to fill PG medical seats as per varsity rules

Vijayawada: NTR University of Health Sciences vice-chancellor Dr Syama Prasad was on Saturday urged to fill the post-graduate medical seats in private medical colleges as per the rules and regulations of the university.

Kesana Sankar Rao, president of the AP BC Welfare Association in a memorandum submitted to the vice-chancellor in his chambers to that effect.

Later, addressing the media, Sankar Rao said that the members of the welfare association are supporting the BC, SC, ST students who have been on hunger strike for the last three days demanding admission in private medical and dental colleges in the state.

He said that they submitted a memorandum to the vice-chancellor to implement the GO No 56.

He said that the private medical colleges are not admitting the PG students on the pretext of fee structure fixed by the government. In fact, the reduction in the fee would enable the poor students to study the post-graduation courses.

He said that they had also submitted memoranda to Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, minister for health Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas and principal secretary of the medical and health department to revise the PG medical seat fee structure which is acceptable to all.

Vice-chancellor Dr Syama Prasad told the media that the admissions would be conducted as per the direction of the court.

BC Association leaders Kanaka Rao, Nagalingam, Parasa Ranganath, Meka Venkateswara Rao and others were in the delegation that met the vice-chancellor.
