 Officials told to shift waste iron scrap from Auto Nagar

Vijayawada: Krishna district collector Md Imtiaz along with the officials of the Pollution Control Board, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and Auto Nagar Industrial Local Authority (AILA) representatives visited various parts of Jawahar Industrial Auto Nagar on Friday and discussed the steps to be taken to lift the waste materials particularly the iron and scrap from the Auto Nagar.

The collector during the visit noticed waste metals like scrap dumped in many parts of Auto Nagar and it could be dangerous to the health of the people. Interacting with the media later, Collector that said a meeting would be convened with stake holders to take up cleanliness drive in the Industrial Auto Nagar and Kanuru village panchayat. He said that action plan will be prepared for shifting of waste materials from the villages, towns and cities in the district.

He recalled already efforts were started to check drinking water contamination in the villages, towns in Krishna district. Collector enquired about the disposal of old batteries.

The AILA chairman Durga Prasad said the old batteries will be transported to Chennai for dismantling. Collector has suggested the officials of the AILA, VMC and Kanuru panchayat to work with coordination to dispose of the waste at the earliest and prevent contamination of water in Auto Nagar and Kanuru village.

He asked the officials to take steps for the removal of waste iron scrap that may pollute the waters.

He reminded that heavy metals were dangerous and will contaminate the waters. Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board executive engineer E Murali, VMC chief Medical officer Dr Geetabai and other participated in the visit.
