Vijayawada: Night shelter for women mooted

Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner, Venkatesh Prasanna has asked the officials to set up night shelter for women at the community hall in Balaji Nagar, Krishnalanka.

He conducted a review meeting with the officials of VMC, police, NGOs on Thursday.

The officials informed the Commissioner there was a need to set up two more night shelters in the city. Venkatesh lamented that many poor people were still sleeping on pavements, near the bus station, railway stations during the nights.

He asked the officials to conduct a special drive and shift the people sleeping on the pavements to the night shelters during the nights. He suggested for biometric system for the staff working at the night shelters.
