Vijayawada: Importance of providing satellite phone service in remote tribal areas stressed

Vijayawada: The Department of Telecommunications, Andhra Pradesh Unit, on Wednesday organised a workshop on 'Role of Internet Service Providers (ISP) in the development of integrated digital infrastructure. The workshop was held at the School of Planning and Architecture premises here.

Principal Secretary for Tribal Welfare R P Sisodia urged the Department of Telecommunication that the satellite phone service shall be made available in remote tribal areas where there are no mobile phone services. He appreciated the services of the Department of Communication.

Adviser Department of Telecom K Ramchand said the citizens are the key to unlock India's competitiveness for sustainable wealth creation, employment, and inclusive growth acting as a critical enabler for the socio-economic transformation process.

He said that electricity and other basic utilities, internet services are the foundation for economic growth, job creation, global competitiveness and a better way of life as the need for digital transformation in every sector becomes the stimulus for growth. He said that in the recent past, the increasing adoption of digitisation in every sector as a way of conducting business has necessitated having a high-speed, reliable (robust), and universal internet connectivity.

However, the development of internet services across the country, where ISPs play a key role, has become a major challenge, he added.

BSNL CGM B V Raghava Kumar, DoT director general Robert Ravi, DoT assistant director P Nagamurali Krishna and others were present.
