Vijayawada: Expressing strong exception to the arrest of the Congress party leaders when they tried to go to the residence of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and describing it as dictatorial tendency, APCC president Dr Sake Sailajanath said here on Saturday that dictatorship has no place in a democracy.

Talking to newsmen at Andhra Ratna Bhavan, the PCC chief said that there was no response from the Chief Minister when he wrote a letter seeking an interview with him to speak on various issues.

Sailajanath pointed out that he along with other leaders were arrested at Mangalagiri and the Congress leaders in Vijayawada and Guntur were also arrested in advance without any reason.

He said that the Congress leaders wanted to appeal to the Chief Minister to extend support to the agitating farmers in Delhi. Referring to the challenges and counter-challenges on Polavaram project, the PCC chief said that Chandrababu Naidu was the first accused in the Polavaram project construction and Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is the real accused.

He wondered as to why the State government has undertaken the construction of the project when it was an entirely national project. The people all over the State were watching the Assembly proceedings with disgust, he said stating that the YSR Congress leaders know only to shout but not to speak.

He said that the PCC would write another letter to the Chief Minister to speak with him on various issues including the capital city of Amaravati and if there was no response, the party would decide the future course of action. He said that there should be only discussions but not arrests in a democracy.
