Training on contingency crop plan held in Tirupati

Tirupati: Krishi Vignan Kendra (KVK) of Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS) has conducted training programme on 'contingency crop plan' at Karakambadi near Tirupati on Monday in view of continued drought situation in the district.

ICAR-ATARI Director Dr YG Prasad from Hyderabad was the chief guest for the programme. He suggested less water requirement crops like red gram, castor, fied bean, horse gram etc. He also advised farmers to take up 'silage' making to overcome green fodder scarcity. He emphasised importance of 'insurance' especially for farmers.

Dr Ravindranath Reddy, Principal Scientist, Agronomy, RARS participated as resource person and briefed about package of practices for contingent crops and advantages of integrated farming systems. They also released posters on 'water conservation measures' as a part of Jal Shakti Abhiyan.

Also, distributed soil health cards to farmers. KVK staff, farmers from Chittecherla, Chinnagottigallu and Yerravaripalem mandals have participated. Senior scientist and RASS head KVK Dr S Srinivasulu presided over the

programme.
