Tirupati: Waste management plant getting ready in pilgrim city

Tirupati: Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) authorities have set up a new waste management plant as a solution to clear garbage in city. Presently everyday more than 240 metric tonnes of garbage is being generating in the city. After segregation of garbage civic body authorities are sending the garbage to Rmapuram dumping yard located 30 km from the city.

People of Ramapuram and surrounding villagers have been opposing the garbage dumping near the village. Two years ago officials had planned to construct a solid waste management near Thukivakam village and the works started six months ago with Smart City funds.

MCT has spent more than 1.5 crores to this waste management plant which is nearly completed.Now onwards civic body staff would send collected garbage to this waste management plant near Thukivakam village in Renigunta mandal where trained staff segregate the garbage as biodegradable and non-degradable waste.

Later they will process the bio waste as manure. Similarly, plastic waste would be sent for recycling process. Officials also made arrangements for recycling of building waste material at the plant.

MCT Commissioner PS Girisha inspected this plant on Sunday and directed the officials to take steps to inaugurate the plant within 10 days. He expressed satisfaction over the ongoing plant works and made some suggestions to the staff on maintain cleanliness in plant premises.
