Tirupati: Minister G Jayaram distributes PM-SYM cards to workers
Tirupati: Minister for Labour, Employment, Training and Factories G Jayaram on Sunday visited Sri City accompanied by Tirupati MP Balli Durga Prasad Rao and Satyavedu MLA Koneti Adimulam.
The Minister formally launched the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM) scheme and distributed membership cards to the workers in unorganised sector. Addressing the beneficiaries, he said this was one of the several schemes aimed at the welfare of workers in the unorganised sector.
"The scheme ensures old age protection for workers with monthly income of Rs15,000 or below. It is open to workers in age group of 18 to 40. It provides Rs.3,000 a month to the subscribers after attaining the age of 60," he said.
Sri City MD Ravindra Sannareddy said the Minister's visit to the facility to launch the programme reflected the strong impetus and seriousness of the government for the industrial development and workers welfare. He stressed the need to start some more technical training institutes and skill development centres in the region, so that more and more locals would find jobs.
Later, the Minister addressed the CXOs and HR managers of Sri City units and assured all support from the state government. He directed them to give priority for locals in employment in accordance with the government norms. MP Durga Prasad, MLA Adimulam also spoke on the occasion.
The Minister along with the MP and MLA went round the mega industrial park and visited the Foxconn unit and Alstom plant, where more than 15,000 rural women are employed. Joint Commissioner of Labour Srinivasulu and other officials were present.
