Tirupati: Collector Bharat Gupta exhorts youth,donate blood to save lives

Tirupati: District Collector Dr N Bharat Gupta has called upon the youth to come forward for donating blood to save lives. He participated in a programme held on World Blood Donor Day organised by SVIMS on Sunday. The day was being observed on June 14 every year on the birth anniversary of the discoverer of ABO blood group system Karl Landsteiner.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that there is no need for any misconceptions on blood donation and people have to know the uses of donating blood 3-4 times a year. Lauding the efforts of SVIMS for providing best medical care for the people of Rayalaseema, the Collector stated that it is proud for the entire district that SVIMS is one among very few institutes in the country providing plasma therapy for Covid patients.

SVIMS Director-cum-Vice-Chancellor Dr B Vengamma has said that according to WHO, the theme for this year's blood donor day is 'Safe blood, Save lives'. The transfusion medicine department of the institute has been organising several blood donation camps and providing blood to many patients in emergencies. By donating blood, one can reduce their overweight and come out of the risk of various diseases, she said.

The Collector has donated blood on this occasion followed by the Principal of Sri Padmavati Medical College for Women Dr Sharan B Singh and controller of examinations Dr Uma Maheswara Rao. The dignitaries have felicitated several blood donors on the occasion. Medical Superintendent Dr Ram, Registrar Dr KV Sreedhar Babu, Dean Dr M Hanumantha Rao, Ruia Hospital superintendent Dr T Bharati, Additional DM&HO Dr C Aruna Sulochana Devi and others participated.
