Rallies mark National Sports Day

Tirupati: The National Sports Day celebrated on the birth anniversary of hockey veteran Dhyan Chand here on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched "Fit India movement".

As a part of this programme, Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvidyalayam (SPMVV) here conducted a massive rally in pilgrim city. Later, all the students and staff had assembled in Indira Priyadarshini auditorium and watched the launch of Fit India programme in DD channel by the Prime Minister.

NSS Bureau campaigned in the adopted villages of SPMVV including Patha Sanambatla, Dornakambala, Malaipalli, Gangudupalli and Adapareddipalli villages in Chittoor district. Faculty and students of SPMVV volunteered to educate about fitness and trained them about various yogasanas, exercise and motivated people to work on those health tips.

The main aim of the campaign is to encourage people to inculcate physical activities and sports in their everyday lives to ensure physical fitness essential for a peaceful and healthy life. People should change their mind set regarding physical fitness.

The researchers even revealed strong evidence that shows physical inactiveness increases the risk of many adverse health conditions including diabetes, cancer, hypertension, coronary and cerebrovascular disease, obesity etc, unless there is a reversal of these sedentary lifestyle, the threat of these diseases will increase and life expectancy will decrease.

PM Modi opined that the way to make India a great nation is only possible through a healthy person, healthy family, and healthy society. Villagers actively participated in the

programme.

In Piler, National Sports Day was observed in Government Junior College. Speaking on the occasion, Principal Venkat Reddy stressed on promoting sports and games from school-level to inculcate interests in physical activities among the young generation for a health life.

While SS Games and Sports Association founder Amzad Khan and co-organiser of the programme Janam Gangi Reddy explained the importance of sports day being observed nationwide on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dhyan Chand, who brought name and fame to India.

They called on the youth to take any of the sports or game and strive to achieve recognition by taking inspiration of PV Sindhu, who with sheer pursuance and grit achieved international fame.
