Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation to get Greater status soon
Rajamahendravaram: The Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation (RMC) will obtain 'Greater' tag shortly. Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan has issued orders merging nearby 10 villages of Rajamahendravaram rural mandal into the corporation.
The merged villages of rural mandal were Torredu, Venkatanagaram, Katheru, Hukumpeta, Pidimgoyyi, Satellite city, Bommuru, Dowleswaram, Rajavolu and Vemagiri. With merger, the area of the corporation will be increased to 100 square kilometres from the existing 44.5 square kilometres of corporation.
Meanwhile, the population also be increased to 5.1 lakh with the existing corporation population of 3.45 lakh. Except Konthamuru- Kolamuru and Lalachervu panchayats remaining 10 villages of rural mandal were merged.
Earlier, it was proposed to merge 21 villages in the mandals of rural, Rajanagaram and Korukonda. But now the villages in Korukonda and Rajanagaram mandals were exempted fully along with two villages in rural mandal.
YSRCP city coordinator Srighakollapu Sivarama Subramanyam said that a representation will be given to government stressing on the need to merge Lalachervu and Kolamuru-Konthamuru villages in the corporation.
Meanwhile, TDP rural MLA Gorantla Buchaiah Choudary questioned how RMC gets Greater status without merging Lalachervu and Kolamuru-Konthamuru villages in the corporation. He demanded that the government merge all 21 villages proposed earlier.
