Rajamahendravaram: Coconut growers in distress over non-purchase of stocks

Rajamahendravaram: Coconut growers are in distress as NAFED so far not purchased even a single coconut from the growers since May. The government has started five NAFED centres during May this year in Ambajipeta, Mummidivaram, Nagaram, Tatipaka and Kothapeta in Konaseema area.

Respective officials are saying due to Corona problem purchasing of coconuts not started, though there are huge stock of coconuts in Konaseema area. Because of this, coconut growers are in dilemma over purchase of their stocks. At present, the price of 1,000 new coconuts is Rs 9,500, old Kuridi coconut Rs 9,000, Gandera coconut Rs 12,500 and Gatagata coconuts Rs 8,000. The coconut growers in Konaseema area are demanding NAFED centres to purchase coconut stocks immediately.
