Rains caused delay in implementation of new sand policy, says Minister

Visakhapatnam: District in charge Minister Mopidevi Venkataramana has admitted that there were certain problems in the supply of sand. Speaking at a review meeting held at the Collectorate here on Saturday, the Minister who holds the portfolio of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Marketing, blamed the previous TDP government for lapses in the system.

To streamline the sand supply and ensure its availability to everybody, the YSRCP government introduced the new sand policy and due to rains and floods there was a delay in its implementation, he said adding everything would be in place soon.

The Minister said the Village Secretariat system was introduced to achieve 'Gram Swaraj', which was the dream of Mahatma Gandhi. Stating that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was trying his best for ensuring transparency in governance, he said officials should extend their cooperation to him in his endeavor.

Minister for Tourism Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao said a special officer would be appointed to ensure proper supply of sand. The meeting was chaired by Rajya Sabha member V Vijaya Sai Reddy. Visakhapatnam MP M V V Satyanarayana, District Collector V. Vinay Chand and others spoke.
