Anantapur: CPI workers headed by district secretary D Jagadesh staged dharna at the local Vijaya Bank premises in support of All India Bank Employees Union which gave a call to oppose merger of multiple banks in the country to one bank so as to hand over the same to capitalist forces.

Addressing Banks employees affiliated to the union, Jagadesh accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi government of selling themselves to Industry and corporate forces and misleading the 130 crore Indian population.

Jagadesh said that already privatisation process had begun from the back door in Railways and Insurance sectors and the Modi government is taking advantage of the brute majority in Parliament to throttle opposition. Centre is planning to handover all core sectors to private industrialists, he said.

He alleged that 202 industrial giants had borrowed Rs 2.70 lakh crores and defrauded the banks thus contributing to accumulating losses. The losses were caused by the rich and not by the poor, he maintained. The CPI leader said that Modi had been winning election after election by provoking national sentiments and using the bogey of Pakistan.

Bank Employees Union leaders Rushendrababu and Munwar Basha spoke on the occasion denouncing the NDA government for its anti-Banks and anti-people policies.
