Prepare master plan to improve swimming pool

Srikakulam: Swimming is a healthy exercise for all sections of the people, stated Legislative Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram. Inaugurating the fourth State-level Swimming Competitions here on Sunday, he said that swimming was a good exercise and keep our body fit and sound till old age.

On the occasion, he recalled that a swimmer from district, A Satyam Raju set a record in national level in 100 meters event in swimming competitions in 1974. Since then till today no swimmer from Srikakulam district overcome the achievement, he said and expressed confidence that the swimmers from the district would create a new record soon.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Roads and Buildings Dharmana Krishna Das asked the officials to prepare a master plan to improve swimming pool in Srikakulam with all modern facilities. The pride of nation will be popularised with achievements of sports persons and experts in games, he elaborated.

They said that Srikakulam needs a good swimming pool with modern facilities and promised that the district would conduct State level swimming competitions every year.

District Collector J Nivas said that 200 swimmers from across the state are participating in the competitions.

At present, the district has one swimming pool with 28 meters length with six lanes width and it need to be extended for 50 meters length with 12 lanes width to conduct national-level swimming competitions, the Collector explained. Swimmers association district wing representatives and swimmers from 13 districts participated in the event.
