Panel inspects uranium affected villages in Kadapa

Kadapa: On the second day, the 11-member committee appointed by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) has visited several villages including Mabbuchintalapalli, KK Kotala, Penampalli and Rachakondapalli in Vemula mandal on Tuesday and interacted with the people over problems being faced by them due to seepage water from uranium factory.

Social activists and voluntary organisations have submitted representations to the panel highlighting the severity of the seepage. K Prameelamma, a resident of Penampalli has showed rashes on her face and hands to the panel members. In Kotala village, M Nagendra explained to the committee that villagers were unable to perform farming operations as water polluted in irrigation canals.

Later, speaking to media, Hyderabad-based National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) principal scientist Dr EVV SSK Babu said the panel has inspected the crops and cattle and a detailed report would be submitted to the APPCB on Wednesday.
