No water woes in Vizag

Visakhapatnam: Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has prepared a summer action plan to supply drinking water to all households on the outskirts. The GVMC has also increased the number of water tanks and trips and supplying water in the colonies. With enough water levels in major water sources, there will not be any problem for drinking water scarcity till the rainy season starts.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, GVMC Commissioner M Hari Narayanan revealed the water reserve details and summer action plan for water supply. He said the main water sources including Yeleru, and at Godavari River, the water levels are much supporting and there will not be any problem till December this year.

The waters from the Raiwada and Meghadrigedda reservoirs would be sustainable up to May 14 and June 14 respectively. However, the dead storage pumping arrangements are being made for a period of 55 days, the commissioner said.

An amount of Rs 4.83 crore is being spent to ensure drinking water to all residential colonies in the corporation limits including Anakapalle and Bheemili. Water will be supplied from 75 tankers with 398 trips per day, the commissioner said. All the zonal commissioners and executive engineers of zones have been directed to keep monitor the existing water reservoirs and ensure water should be reached to every household in the city, he added.

Talking about the property tax collections, Hari Narayanan said the government has issued orders providing 5 per cent discount to tax payers, who can pay the first half and second half payments at a time. This would also applicable to vacant lands, he said and added all the zonal offices from April 21 to 30 would collect the taxes from 7 am to 9 pm.
